I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
Maybe this time in your life is challenging, and you are taking the first step to getting help.
Reaching out for counseling can be difficult because it involves acknowledging that something is going on that you need help working through. But taking this step can be the first of many wise decisions to get you where you need and want to be.
My goal is to meet you where you are and offer the help you need. I desire to provide you with the utmost care and equip you to make the changes you want to improve your life.
You’re in the right place!
I provide individual counseling for men and women who find themselves at a turning, or breaking, point in their lives.
If you relate to this, you may feel an overall heaviness in your life. And this heaviness may come from a demanding relationship, unresolved grief, an unwanted change in life, crippling anxiety, depression, addiction, or something else.
You may find yourself feeling covered up and trapped underneath the weight and complexity of all that bears down upon you.
You want to feel better – and be better – but maybe you struggle to find a way, or the right way, to break through.
You may find yourself teetering on the edge between fighting hard for your life or giving up and just simply existing.
You may appear successful or even happy with your life on the outside. But underneath it all is a burden that grows stronger and heavier each day.
Maybe you don’t understand how you got where you are in life, or perhaps you are severely disappointed with your life.
No matter how you got here, I’m glad you are here. Together, we can get to the bottom of all that is troubling you and make a plan to get your life back to where you want it to be.
Here’s how therapy can help you…
Identifying the root issues holding you back
We’ll do this by looking over your life for themes or hurts that are unresolved or unfinished. I explain it this way: You bury things that are dead, not things that are alive. If you bury something dead, it stays dead. But if you bury something alive, like a seed, it will continue to grow.
People are like this with pain. We have a tendency to avoid pain and “bury” the pain instead of feeling and addressing all that it stirs up inside ourselves.
It’s natural to want to avoid thinking about past trauma or pain in our lives. If you’ve already worked through these hurts, then we don’t have to dredge them up again. I’m not interested in bringing up old hurts that you’ve already resolved; however, you might be surprised at what unresolved hurts come up when we go over your history one step at a time.
Gaining insight into yourself and others
As we examine your past for what is unresolved or unfinished, we will identify themes and messages you learned throughout your life that have shaped how you see yourself and others.
You will learn how what you experienced, both pleasant and painful, helped make you into the person you are today.
You’ll also see how those experiences have affected your relationships in both healthy and unhealthy ways.
Walking beside you as you heal
Together, we will determine what changes need to be made to lead the life you desire.
We will process the painful experiences you’ve endured and discover the areas that require additional attention so that you can heal and find hope in your life again.
Formulating a plan to get you on track
We will devise a counseling plan that enables you to make the necessary emotional and behavioral changes to reclaim your life.
I will help you implement your counseling plan by giving you personalized homework assignments that specifically target critical areas for your personal growth.
During our sessions, we will address what you are currently facing in your life and continue to work through your history. In doing this, you can recognize your progress as you heal from past hurts, as well as the progress you make as you face your present circumstances and implement what you’ve learned.
Empathetic, nonjudgmental, direct, honest, and practical…
That’s the kind of experience you’ll get in therapy.
I will provide you with a safe space to share your struggles and truly be yourself without fear of being judged. I will listen to you and not only hear what you are saying verbally, but I will also hear what goes beyond your words. I will empathize with the feelings you experience, and I will give you my direct thoughts and honest feedback.
I strive to offer my clients practical and applicable feedback, not empty words and reflective phrases that merely sound good. I am certainly not perfect, and I may misunderstand you at times. But as long as you can be honest and transparent with me, I will do my best to truly understand, connect, and meet you where you are.
About Me
I grew up in North Louisiana…
But I’ve been a resident of Texas for most of my life.
Life can be hard, complicated, and messy, but my faith, humor, and loved ones are what get me through it all.
I genuinely love what I do for a living.
I enjoy working with people from all different walks of life.
I feel honored to walk alongside those who choose to work with me in therapy.
Some of my professional background…
I’ve been a licensed counselor for 20+ years, and I’ve been in private practice for 15 years.
Throughout my counseling career, I have provided services for individuals and families of all ages, addressing all sorts of concerns related to marriage, divorce, pregnancy, adoption, blended families, and co-parenting. I’ve also treated depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma.
I have dual master’s degrees in marriage and family counseling and religious education. I use cognitive-behavioral techniques and personalized assignments to help my clients continually progress throughout their counseling journey.
When I’m not working…
I love spending time with my family.
I also relax by trying my hand at various crafts, such as calligraphy, cross-stitch, and other DIY projects.
I also enjoy psychological thrillers, shows by Dick Wolf, and dry (sometimes dark) humor.
